PFTP Winter Pruning and Tree Care Workshop Schedule

winter pruning season is in full swing! this means tree care, fruit tree pruning, maintenance and more!

This time of year is full of planning and doing in preparation for the fruit growing and harvesting season in 2023. It’s exciting for all of us here at Portland Fruit Tree Project! The year’s schedule is starting to shape up for all things Portland Fruit (tree planting, tree indexing, tree care, tree walks, tree stewardship)! And speaking of shaping up…winter tree care means pruning! Have you been meaning to prune your fruit trees but aren’t sure where to start? We have the workshop (several, actually) for you…

We just hosted our first “Basics of Winter Pruning” workshop and are hosting several other workshops in the coming weeks— including two more chances to take the “Basics of Winter Pruning” workshop. Other workshop topics include: Bench Grafting; Fruit Vine and Shrub Propagation and Top Grafting. Interested? Check out the full list of workshops below…

PFTP winter workshops range from the “Basics of Winter Pruning”, to “Bench Grafting” to “Winter Propagation”, all involve different aspects of how to care for your fruit trees, vines and shrubs and how to ultimately grow fruit more successfully in your own yard.

The PFTP “Bench Grafting” workshop will be held Feb. 19, a Sunday, from 11am-1pm. This workshop will be a hands-on opportunity to graft your own fruit tree. Grafting is a form of propagating new fruit trees using buds or twigs – the ‘scion wood’ from an existing tree and fusing it onto a branch or stem of another tree – ‘the rootstock. You will go home with your own grafted tree to plant before the end of winter. Sign up SOOn for this one: https://portlandfruit.duplie.com/Event.jsp?eventDateId=301509

Did you know… PFTP OFFERS TREE CARE COACHING!

Many folks have taken us up on our offer to care for your fruit trees or to offer you coaching to help you get better acquainted with your yard and how to maintain it. If that’s the case, a one-day workshop might not be the ticket. If you’d like more hands-on help check out our updated Tree Care and Tree Care Coaching offerings here. We will give you one-on-one support to keep your fruit trees strong and beautiful going into the growing season and throughout the years.
