Ongoing Advocacy Planning
What Is it?
PFTP is working on what Advocacy looks like for our organization, launching in 2022.
Why Does it Matter
Did you know that nonprofits are limited in what advocacy we are allowed to do? We can only use a finite number of resources and work on a limited range of projects, but we believe that you can’t fix the root causes of systemic injustices without trying to change the systems that created and uphold those systems, so we are excited to use the resources we’re able to to work with partner organizations on issues related to food equity, community resilience, and environmental justice.
How is it Going?
Since the start of 2021, intern Quinna Sypher worked with Oregon Food Bank to dream up the start of what an advocacy plan and cadence would look like for our organization. She presented that to the board and we got the support needed to embrace this work. Kristina Giordano also interned at that time and helped us start creating a series of statements about what we stand for and believe that are still in the works.
Currently, we are hosting interns Alli Miller and Maggie Goodwin. Alli is working specifically around equitable canopy opportunities and Maggie is helping to add clarity and action to our equity statement, to ensure that all of our work connects well.
