1912 NE Killingsworth St.

PFTP hosts a monthly volunteer work-party at our headquarters on the Second Tuesday of each month. These work-parties are a great way to help out with PFTP behind-the-scenes, and meet others in the PFTP community.

Your help would be greatly appreciated! Please RSVP to katy@portlandfruit.org or call 503-284-6106 if you would like to join us. Thank you!

Mark your calendars: The next monthly work-party will be Tuesday, October 12th, 6:00-7:30pm.

Sabin Community Orchard

Portland Fruit Tree Project and Sabin Community Association have partnered to create the Sabin Community Orchard. This is a small orchard on public property in the Sabin neighborhood of NE Portland (at NE Mason and 18th Ave), created and maintained by (and for) neighborhood residents. We planted the fruit trees in February, and our next big step will be a community design charette in October to plan under-story plantings. We also have regular volunteer work-parties to care for the site and plants.

If you live in or near the Sabin neighborhood, you are invited to join in this exciting project!

To get started, please contact Katy to let her know you're interested.
She will sign you up to receive updates about orchard events and opportunities to participate. Sign up today:! katy@portlandfruit.org ; 503-284-6106.

Become a Tree Scout!

Tree scouts work in their own neighborhoods to register new fruit trees, and to help PFTP keep in touch and conduct site visits with tree owners already registered. This is a fun opportunity to serve as a vital liaison between PFTP and fruit tree owners in your area. We provide all necessary training andmaterials. You can expect to spend 1 to 2 hours per week on this volunteer position, which begins in June and ends in October of each year.
The application process for 2010 is now closed. We will be accepting applications again in June of 2011.

Become a Harvest Leader!

Harvesting Parties bring people together to pick fruit that might otherwise go to waste, and make it available to people in need. Harvest Leaders co-lead harvesting parties along with another volunteer. We provide all of the necessary training, materials, and support. You would be expected to commit to co-lead at least 5 harvesting parties between late July and late November.

The application process for 2010 is now closed. We will be accepting applications again in June of 2011.

Teach a workshop

All of our workshops are taught by experienced volunteers. Do you have expertise in topics related to fruit tree care or food preservation? We would love to speak with you about opportunities to share your skills and knowledge with the community. Previous teaching experience is a plus.

Help out in the PFTP office

Tree Care Teams:

Join us in increasing the health and abundance of urban fruit trees -- Become a Tree Care Team Member, or a Tree Care Team Leader! PFTP is forming small teams of volunteers to care for fruit trees registered and harvested by PFTP. Each Tree Care Team will include one or two ‘Team Leaders’ with experience and skills in organic fruit tree care, who will guide the group. Each team will be responsible for a group of trees in their area, visiting each tree once per season to complete the full spectrum of care throughout the year. This will be a unique opportunity develop strong skills in fruit tree care, meet new people, and improve the health and productivity of trees providing food to your community! Members and Leaders will participate in ten 3-hour work-parties over a 9-month period (February-October, 2010). Topics/tasks will include: Winter Pruning, Spring check-ups/Pest & Disease Control, Summer Pruning/Thinning, Fall Clean-Up/Pest & Disease Assessment.

The 2010 program is full. We will be accepting applications for 2011 in December, 2010.
