FOOD PRESERVATION:
Learn
how to make your summer harvests last all year long! Our workshops
offer hands-on instruction in the joys & safe practices of
canning, drying and other food preservation techniques. Drying & Freezing Fruit In
this hands-on workshop you will learn how to dry and freeze some of
the fruit most commonly grown in our area. Drying and freezing are
great ways to make fruit last throughout the seasons, while
retaining nutrients that can be lost during canning. This fun
workshop will be an opportunity to walk through the processes, and
take home some delicious samples! Canning!

Saturday, September 25th, 2:30-5:30pm
You may also join us in harvesting fruit that morning: Sign up for the Harvesting Party on Saturday, 9/25, 10am-1pm!
In
this hands-on workshop we will be canning plums from Portland Fruit
Tree Project's harvesting party that same morning! Come and learn
how fruit canning can be fun, easy, and safe to do at home. We will
walk through the process together, and everyone will get to take
home a jar of freshly canned fruit!

Fermentation: Fruit Kefir and Fruit Kimchi
Tuesday, October 5th, 6:30-8:30pm
In
this hands-on workshop you will learn about fruit kefir and fruit
kimchi. These healthy and delicious fruit products are rich in
nutrients and probiotics, and can be easily made at home... We will
walk through the process together, and everyone will get to take home
their own jar of fermenting deliciousness.

Jams and Sauces
Saturday, October 16th, 2:30-5:30pm
Learn
to make delicious jams and sauces from fresh fruit! This workshop
will cover the basics for folks who have never made jam or sauce
before, or who want a refresher. We will walk through the process
together, and everyone will get to take home a jar of jam or sauce
made during the workshop.

Cold Storage!
Tuesday, October 26th, 6:30-8:00pm
By
learning the basics of cold storage, variety selection, and proper
fruit packing, you will be able to keep fruit fresh for months after
harvesting!

Fruit Leather!
Saturday, November 13th, 2:30-5:00pm
Learn
to make your own fruit leather! This hands-on workshop will cover the
basics of food dehydration, with a focus on making fruit leather. We
will be using persimmons harvested in a previous PFTP harvesting party.

TREE CARE:
Our
hands-on workshops provide opportunities to learn the basics of fruit tree
care using organic methods. This is a great way to gain valuable hands-on experience that can help you improve
the health, beauty and productivity of your fruit trees. Upcoming

Fall Tree Care: Pest & Disease Identification & Control
Sunday, October 24th, 10am-1pm
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the basics of organic pest & disease identification and management to increase tree health and fruit quality. This workshop will take place in SE Portland (Brentwood-Darlington neighborhood).

Pre-registration is required. Cost for this class is $10-$25 (sliding scale). This class is free of charge for tree owners who have registered fruit trees with us. A limited number of work-trade and scholarships slots are also available.
